On the eve of Nyepi, offerings and food are left out to appease wandering spirits, while loud noises created by the banging of tin cans and other objects are used to dispel negative forces. In the days leading up to the event, fireworks light up the sky, torches are carried and towering papier-mâché effigies (ogoh-ogoh) are paraded through villages and towns as a ritual. 

As the island embraces darkness on Nyepi, a rare spectacle unfolds in the night sky. With a minimal light pollution, a vast display of stars appears above. Celebrating this spectacle, savour a thoughtfully crafted menu in a serene, candlelit setting all the while immersing in the tranquility of this sacred evening. 

In collaboration with Balinese artists Ida Bagus Rajastra and I Wayan Tangguh, Amandari celebrates the intricate craft of mask-making. Showcasing masks that serve as a bridge between the seen and the unseen, embodying ancestral wisdom, mythology and ritual this local exhibition offers a glimpse into Bali's cultural soul, where each mask tells a story-of gods and demons, dance and drama and devotion. 

In Sanskrit and Bahasa Indonesia, Purnama means full moon, complete, infinite, and perfect. The Balinese believe on this day, Chandra, the Moon God, showers his blessings and magic on earth by offering his light and reminding them of their own light within. Every full moon, Amandari presents a special cultural and culinary experience combining Balinese dance and gamelan orchestra from the neighbouring Kedewatan Village with a curated menu showcasing Balinese favourites and imaginative dishes inspired by native ingredients and seasonal flavours.

Jamuan Makan Nusantara offers diverse regional Indonesian archipelago dishes. Featuring a curation of expertly prepared vegetables, seafood, and meat dishes, this dining experience showcases Indonesian cuisine’s bold and complex flavours as well as its aromatic herbs and spices. 

In the traditional Balinese Saka Calendar, the new year is marked by Nyepi. A Hindu celebration designed to cleanse the previous year’s negative energy and prepare for a positive year ahead, Nyepi – New Year’s Day – sees the island of Bali at its most serene, with traffic silenced and many taking part in fasting, alongside abstention from work and forms of entertainment.

Piodalan or Odalan is a traditional village celebration observed throughout Bali, marking the anniversary of the consecration of a mrajan (family temple) or a palinggih (sacred shrine). At Amandari's temple, the Odalan ceremony spans three-days and features traditional dance and orchestra performances, accompanied by blessings, prayer sessions, and a bustling Balinese food market.

During Galungan and Kuningan in Bali, a 10-day celebration takes place every 210 days according to the Hindu Saka Calendar. It is believed that during this period, all gods, including Ida Sang Hyang Widi, descend to earth to partake in the festivities. During this celebration, inspiring rituals and feasts adorned with offerings honor their presence.
