With its warm, equatorial climate year-round, Moyo Island is the epitome of a tropical island paradise, with lush jungle and cascading waterfalls inland, and turquoise seas lapping its scalloped skirt of white-sand beaches. Hike to crystal pools spotting exotic birdlife along the way, explore the reefs offshore teeming with marine life or head to Komodo National Park and Raja Ampat on an overnight sailing expedition. Whatever your interests, a host of activities and experiences await.
Amanwana lies within one of the globe’s most breathtaking collections of National Parks, encompassing land, sea and an awe-inspiring wealth of biodiversity. Amanwana is the only resort on Moyo Island, part of Moyo Satonda National Park, and rests on the shores of a protected marine park offering some of Indonesia’s best scuba diving and snorkelling sites. Tambora National Park on Sumbawa Island is equally spectacular, known for its in-land salt-water lake, giant crater and vibrant seascape. And then there’s Komodo National Park, where the legendary Komodo dragons can be seen in a land seemingly untouched since prehistoric times.
Whether you’re a watersports afficionado or prefer to keep your feet dry, Amanwana offers a world of adventure both on and offshore. Alongside watersports such as kayaking and paddleboarding, the camp’s own PADI Dive Centre caters to all levels of scuba divers – even complete novices – while snorkelling guides introduce the pristine universe beneath the waves. Trekking and cycling routes on Moyo take in the island’s breathtaking vistas, cascading limestone pools and bat cave, providing plenty of opportunities for wildlife encounters.
Known for its dynamic landscapes ranging from mountain to coast, jungle to reef – Moyo Satonda National Park is a haven for a vast variety of wildlife. Hilly tropical forests are home to the region’s wealth of colourful birdlife, including the endangered yellow-crested cockatoo (Cacatua sulphurea), sea eagles and ospreys. When exploring the island, you’re also likely to spot indigenous rusa deer, macaques and wild boar. Beneath the surface, discover a mesmerising array of corals and marine life, from kaleidoscopic reef fish to turtles, manta rays and whale sharks.

Located just east of Moyo Island, Saleh Bay is known as the home of the second-largest whale shark (Rhincodon typus) population on earth with at least 99 known whale sharks inhabiting its waters. Unesco also recognised the presence of whale sharks in the bay, adding the area to its Biosphere Reserve list in 2019.
Unlike other places in the world, whale sharks at Saleh Bay can be found all year round. In the presence of an experienced guide, guests have the opportunity to try and spot these wonderful creatures with a bespoke excursion to the bay. This excursion also includes a sunrise cruise, picnic breakfast and all snorkeling and diving equipment.
