The ultimate introduction to Bhutan, this three-to-four-night journey offers an enlightening all-round experience of the Buddhist Kingdom’s cultural and natural attractions. Arrive at Thimphu Lodge for an overnight stay with the opportunity to visit the capital’s museums and iconic sites before venturing on to Paro Lodge, explore Paro Valley by bike, visit the 17th-century Drukyel Dzong and Kyichi Lhakhang temple, and stroll through charming Paro town. Begin the day with open-air yoga, savour authentic farm-to-table dining and hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery.
Upon arrival at Thimphu Lodge, settle in before exploring the Textile Museum, the Weaving Centre, the Buddha Dordenma and the National Memorial Chorten. Depending on your arrival time, you may also have time to visit the Institute for Traditional Medicine, The School of the 13 Arts and Crafts, Folk Heritage Museum and Simply Bhutan.
After a hearty breakfast, journey to Paro and upon reaching the lodge, hike up to the Drukgyel Dzong Fortress. Post lunch, start your explorations of the valley with the 7th- century Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the first Buddhist temples built in the country.
Start the day with yoga before embarking on a Paro Cultural Tour. This begins at the National Museum housed within the imposing Rinpung Dzong – the ‘Fortress of the Heap of Jewels’.
Lunch can be enjoyed in a pine forest overlooking the historic Drukgyel Dzong. In the evening, try your hand at archery or learn the art of prayer flag printing
In the morning, visit one of Bhutan’s most dramatic monuments, the Taktsang Goemba, more commonly referred to as the Tiger’s Nest, built on a sheer cliff face at an altitude of 2,950m (9,678ft). The journey offers spectacular views of this sacred monastery perched on the rocks, 900m above the valley floor.
After the rewarding four-to-five-hour hike, return to the lodge for a well-deserved Amankora Holistic Massage.
For dinner, a traditional gho or kira will be available for you to wear, on loan from the lodge for your final evening while you enjoy a hearty Bhutanese meal.
The next morning, bid farewell to Bhutan with a 30-minute drive to Paro International Airport (PBH).
