Pi Mai Laos is the traditional Lao New Year, celebrated from 13-15 April. It marks the transition from the dry to the rainy season, symbolising renewal. Festivities include water fights, temple visits and traditional Buddhist rituals, designed to bring families together during this joyful celebration.

Boun Visakha Boucha
Boun Visakha Bousa is a festival that celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Lord Buddha, occurring on the full moon of the sixth lunar month. Beautiful candlelit processions take place in the evening, offering a stunning spectacle with Amantaka guests invited to participate in almsgiving and temple floral offerings during the day, then soak in the festivities by night.

Boun Khao Phansa Festival (Buddhist Lent)
Boun Khao Phansa marks the start of Buddhist Lent, when monks focus on prayer and meditation. Devout locals make food and essential donations, such as Khao Tom (sticky rice) for the monks. Amantaka guests are invited to join the almsgiving, make candle offerings at local monasteries, and observing evening monk chanting and meditation.

Boat Racing Festival
During Ho Khao Padabdin (The Day of the Dead), locals visit temples to offer food to honour their deceased ancestors. The festival culminates in boat racing on the Nam Khan River and a trade fair in Luang Prabang. Amantaka guests can witness these traditions and experience the local way of life, immersing themselves in these annual celebrations.

Boun Ork Phansa
At the end of Buddhist Lent, temples are illuminated with candles, and the Lai Hua Fai ceremony sees decorated fireboats floated on the river to bring good luck. Amantaka guests can participate in making fireboats and release them on the Nam Khan River, then enjoy the spectacular ceremony that follows.

Lhai Heua Fai (Festival of the Boats of Light)
This special boat racing festival celebrates the rainy season's beginnings and occurs halfway through Buddhist Lent. Festivities begin in Luang Prabang, moving to villages along the Mekong River before finishing at Ban Xieng Ngeun. In Luang Prabang, a market day precedes the races, with festivities continuing into the night. Amantaka guests are invited to watch the races from the Nam Khan riverbanks.
