A jungle on the doorstep
Take a guided trek through the protected jungle reserves surrounding Amanera and discover astonishing biodiversity, including resplendent tropical flora and more than 160 species of birds. A private horseback ride through hundreds of acres of forests lining the shore of Playa Grande takes in teak plantations, quiet coastal villages and the abundant natural spectacle of the Dominican Republic.
Explore Dominican culture
From the historical treasures of the 16th-century Fortaleza San Felipe in Puerto Plata to local music performances, architecture tours and cigar-rolling masterclasses, the Amanera team can easily arrange private cultural excursions personally tailored to guests’ interests.
Humpback whale watching
Between January and March each year, humpback whales gather to breed in the waters around Samana Bay, a short journey along the coast from Amanera. Private whale-watching trips can be arranged, bringing guests up close and personal with the friendly ocean giants.
